Description
Suminat 100mg tablets containing the active ingredient sumatriptan succinate is considered a selective serotonin receptor agonist type of medication. It works by narrowing blood vessels around the brain and affects certain nerves in the brain to relieve pain.
The medication is used to treat pain, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound and other migraine symptoms. The tablets can treat migraine headaches that have already begun but cannot be used to prevent future headaches or treat a common tension headache.
Suminat should be taken orally at the first sign of a migraine headache or as directed by a doctor. The tablets can be taken with or without food but should be taken along with some water.
Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the sick person condition and their response to the medication. Do not take another dose of the medicine for at least 2 hours after the initial dose. The maximum recommended dosage is 200mg in a 24 hour period.
Suminat-100 100mg tablets contain sumatriptan, which is a member of the group of drugs called tryptans and is a serotonin agonist that mimics the action of serotonin (also known as 5-hydroxytryptamine, or 5-HT). Serotonin is a brain chemical that is involved in control of mood, pain sensation, sexual behaviour, sleep, as well as dilation (widening) and constriction (narrowing) of blood vessels.
Migraine is thought to be caused by dilatation or widening of blood vessels in the head due to one of many migraine triggers, which in turn stimulates nearby sensory nerves so that you feel pain.
Sumatriptan in Suminat-100 rapid release tablets stimulates the serotonin receptors in these expanded blood vessels making them narrow again (vasoconstriction) and inhibits trigeminal nerve activity, relieving pain.
Both actions are thought to contribute to the anti-migraine action of sumatriptan and relieve headache and other symptoms of a migraine attack. Suminat-100 rapid release tablets are formulated using rapid release fast disintegration technology.
They work is the same way as other sumatriptan-containing migraine tablets but are effective sooner, usually within two hours, because they dissolve faster in the stomach after swallowing.
Therefore, the active ingredient sumatriptan is released more rapidly, which speeds up absorption into the blood and reduces the time taken to reach its target receptors in the brain.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Suminat 100mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Contraindicated in patient with prior heart attack and other heart diseases, uncontrolled high blood pressure, peripheral vascular disease, basilar, hemiplegic or ophthalmologic migraine, severe liver or kidney disease, stroke, allergy to the drug or along with MAO inhibitors or ergot alkaloids.

If a dose of Suminat 100 mg Tablet is missed, take the dose as soon as you remember it. If it is almost the time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.
