Lumigan (bimatoprost) lowers the pressure in the eye by increasing the amount of fluid that drains from the eye.
Lumigan eye drops are used to treat certain types of glaucoma and other causes of high pressure inside the eye. This condition can occur alone or maybe a complication of open-angle glaucoma. This medication comes in an eye drop and is applied to the eyes once a day, preferably in the evening.
If you wear contact lenses, you need to remove them before applying Lumigan; keep them out for at least 15 minutes afterward. Like any medication, side effects are possible with these eye drops. Common ones include red eyes, itchy eyes, and increased eyelash growth.
Lumigan 3ml Eye Drop Uses
Bimatoprost is used to treat high pressure inside the eye due to glaucoma (open-angle type) or other eye diseases (e.g., ocular hypertension). Lowering high pressure inside the eye can help prevent blindness. This medication works by regulating the flow of fluid within the eye to maintain normal pressure.
How does Lumigan 3ml Eye Drop work?
Lumigan 0.03% Eye Drop is a prostaglandin analog. It works by increasing the natural flow of fluid from the eye, thereby lowering the pressure in the eye.
Naturally occurring body chemicals called prostaglandins are found in many parts of your body. In your eyes, prostaglandins are in charge of draining the fluid out of your eyes in sync with the production of aqueous humor. If at any time there is a blockage of the draining system, the fluid build-up will create pressure in your eyeball.
Lumigan Eye Drops contain a prostamide or prostaglandin analog medication called Bimatoprost. When the brand name or Lumigan generic eye drops are administered as directed, they work as your natural prostaglandins would. This helps to increase the drainage of fluid out of your eyeball to relieve the pressure that could potentially press on your optic nerve and cause glaucoma and permanent vision loss.
How to take Lumigan 3ml Eye Drop?
This medicine is for external use only. Take it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Hold the dropper close to the eye/ear without touching it. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside the lower eyelid or ear. Wipe off extra liquid.

Lumigan 3ml Eye Drop Dosage
The recommended dosage is one drop in the affected eye(s) once daily in the evening. LUMIGAN® (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03% should not be administered more than once daily since it has been shown that more frequent administration of prostaglandin analogs may decrease the intraocular pressure lowering effect.
The reduction of the intraocular pressure starts approximately 4 hours after the first administration with maximum effect reached within approximately 8 to 12 hours.
LUMIGAN® 0.03% may be used concomitantly with other topical ophthalmic drug products to lower intraocular pressure. If more than one topical ophthalmic drug is being used, the drugs should be administered at least five (5) minutes apart.

Warnings:
Lumigan eye drops are for use in the eyes only and must not be taken by mouth.
These eye drops may cause your vision to blur temporarily after you have put them in your eye(s). Do not drive or operate machinery until this has worn off.
Bimatoprost can cause your eye color to gradually change, by increasing the amount of brown pigment in your iris. This is not associated with any symptoms and is not harmful. It predominately happens in people with green-brown, yellow-brown, or blue/grey-brown eyes.
If these eye drops are only used in one eye, this may cause your eyes to permanently become different colors. The drops may also cause eyelash growth and darkening of the eyelid skin of the treated eye(s). Ask your doctor, eye specialist, or pharmacist for more information.
While using this medicine you should have regular eye examinations.
Lumigan eye drops in a multi-dose bottle are sterile until opened. The bottles contain a preservative that helps keep the eye drops sterile once they are in use. However, any medicine remaining in the bottle after the bottle has been open for four weeks or more is likely to be contaminated with germs and should no longer be used. Dispose of carefully, preferably by returning to your pharmacy. You may find it helpful to write the date of the first opening on the bottle.
Lumigan eye drops in single-dose vials don’t contain a preservative. They are for single use only and must be thrown away after use, even if they still contain some solution.
